Who is SinoTESOL for?
SinoTESOL was established for all parties interested in the advancement
of English language and multicultural education teaching in China, Asia-Pacific,
and worldwide.
What
does SinoTESOL do?
Our aim is to advance the field of teaching English and multicultural
education to speakers of other languages. We seek to address issues relevant
to the field in general and to China in particular. Among the areas of
concern are educational quality, educational policies, hiring practices,
ethics and standards, methodology, the alliance between pedagogy and research,
information exchange...just to name a few!
Is
SinoTESOL only for those working in China?
No. Because of our office locations, the majority of our membership will
naturally comprise those employed in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau,
but members from all over the world are welcomed. We find that the majority
of issues that affect the realm of teaching English in China are relevant
for the rest of the world as well.
Is
SinoTESOL only for native speakers?
No. SinoTESOL was founded by native speakers and non-native speakers.
Because we have noticed that the constituents of the few organizations
for English teachers in China are mainly Chinese, we do want to offer
a welcoming environment for native speakers and non-native speakers alike.
Do
I have to be a teacher to be a member of SinoTESOL?
No. SinoTESOL is for teachers, aspiring teachers, teachers-in-training,
administrators, academics, and other professionals with an interest in
the field of English language teaching.
What
are the obligations of members?
We hope our members will be active voices in and for their respective
learning environments, communities, and the industry in general, but we
impose no binding obligations on our members.
What
are the benefits of membership?
Besides belonging to a community with a shared interest in one of the
fastest expanding fields in China, our members will receive up-to-date
news and information, event notices and invitations, multiple venues for
exchange of ideas, and the ongoing support of a network of English language
teaching professionals.
Will
SinoTESOL hold meetings and conferences?
Regional meetings are held regularly at the discretion of the respective
regional office. An annual conference (in planning) will be held for members
and guests from around the world.
How
do I become a member?
Conditional membership is offered to all via application. Regular members
must attend two consecutive regional meetings. For more information, please
email us. |
